Overview
My Wycombe is a community-focused platform showcasing everything happening across High Wycombe, from local events and activities to businesses, news and useful town-centre information. The project involved redesigning the My Wycombe website to create a more modern, engaging and user-friendly digital presence. The existing site contained a large amount of useful content, but the design and structure needed to work harder to make that information easy to discover while better reflecting the energy and personality of the town.
The Challenge
With several different types of content competing for attention, one of the key challenges was creating a clear hierarchy without making the website feel overly structured or corporate. The redesign needed to make it easy for different audiences to quickly find what was relevant to them, while still encouraging visitors to explore more of what My Wycombe and the wider town had to offer. It was also important to establish a stronger and more consistent visual identity across the site, creating something that felt contemporary, welcoming and community-led.
The Approach
Before moving into visual design, I mapped out who was actually using the site and used that to shape the navigation and content hierarchy first. I developed a cleaner, more flexible visual system built around strong typography, clear content hierarchy and bold imagery, including a set of custom illustrated icons and graphic elements designed to bring warmth and personality to otherwise practical information. This tied directly into the wider My Wycombe brand identity I developed separately, carrying the same illustrated style through into the website so the town's presence felt consistent wherever people encountered it. The layouts were designed to break information into easily digestible sections, using cards, featured content and clear calls to action to help users navigate naturally through the site. Particular attention was given to balancing practical information with more visually engaging content, allowing events, local stories and town-centre initiatives to take centre stage. The design was also approached responsively, ensuring that content remained easy to browse and navigate across desktop, tablet and mobile.
The Outcome
The redesigned website gives My Wycombe a more confident and contemporary digital presence while making its wide range of content easier to access. The new design provides a flexible framework that can accommodate regularly changing events, news and campaigns without losing visual consistency. Most importantly, it creates a more engaging experience for residents and visitors, helping people discover more of what is happening in and around High Wycombe.
